Ok, I try to be organized, no matter how hard I try between the kiddos, my business and all of the household responsibilities, things get hectic! I don't have a set daily schedule, do you? I need one or I am going to go crazy lol. I think I am a bit OCD so a set schedule makes me feel better! If you are a SAHM, what are your husbands responsibilities at home as well, does he help. Our life is a bit odd, I am a SAHM but I run a business out of the home too. My hubby only works Fri-Sat. and Sun! So just curious how everyone else makes it all work Do you have a daily schedule?

Jen, I'm really bad about making and keeping up with a schedule. When I am trying to stick with one though, I use the pocket docket form from simplemom.net. simplemom.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/pocket-docket.pdfAs for DH's "chores", he really doesn't have any set things that he helps out with, with the exception of taking out the trash. He's really good about helping out when he sees something that needs done, or when I ask him.

Thanks for the link! I'll check it out too! Yeah, my DH does the trash, yardwork of course and does the dish washer each night. He does laundry here and there but I try to keep him away from that lol....

lol Yeah, my DH does the yard work as well. He does the dishes when asked, but since he works from 3pm-midnight, the bulk of the dishes are usually dirtied while he's at work, and done long before he gets home. He does help out a lot with the laundry too.
We just don't have set "his" and "hers" chores (again with the exception of the trash). We both just do what needs to be done. We've tried to have set chores before, but it was too frustrating when one or both of us failed to follow through with it, so we just stick to working together to get done what needs to get done.

Hey ladies - even though I don't have any kids, but work from home, DH and I both pitch in on household chores. I even mow:-) I like it. He usually takes out the trash and the bins, but we do laundry, kitchen and vaccumming together. If I have alot of time of my hands one week, I'll usually do most of it, but he always offers. He is wonderful. We are all blessed to have such wonderful hubbies:-)
My business isn't doing very well and I'm considering closing it down. It's costing me more to keep it up and running than what I'm making. I'll see how 1/2 of 2011 does, but for now, it's not looking good.

Sorry to hear about your business, Tiffani.
My DH, as many of you know, is gone all week so he doesn't have many chores. I am thankful that my boys help. We have a ticket system where the boys earn a certain number of tickets for completing different chores each week. Then, once every couple weeks, they cash in those tickets for $.25 each. It works well and my house is usually VERY clean!
As for schedules, I use Outlook to keep track of all our appointments/committments since my DH, DS14 and DS10 also use it. Additionally, I have a detailed homeschooling schedule for each child and a separate "teaching" schedule for myself. The teaching schedule tells me which child I need to work with during specific blocks of time each day. Their individual schedules list out their assignments for each subject every day of the week. I'm a highly organized person who needs order in my life. I have my own little organization system using color coded labels for all our literature books (we have 6 bookshelves full) and have bins for everything. I also label everything! Yes, I know...I'm kind of nutty, but I like to know where things are when I need them and don't like wasting time looking for them.

Shel, would you like to come organize my pantry? I'm not nearly as organized as you, but I try to keep things orderly, and right now my biggest hangup is trying to figure out how this new pantry should be organized. lol

Get a label maker, Leslie - they are the best! I try to keep my pantry organized (it is very big), but the boys (that includes DH) are always putting things in the wrong place. It is an uphill battle so I'm glad it has a door I can close. I feel the same way about the playroom in the basement. I help them reorganize once in a while, but they just don't share my need for order. So, I just shut the door and only go down there to make sure the bathroom is cleaned when we have visitors.

Well, we could do better! lol I stay at home and home school my two children. DH works Mon-Thurs, but lots of over-time on weekends. I would work, but husband wants me home to teach kids. Our schools are TERRIBLE. I even have a degree! BUT, I wouldn't trade staying home with my kids for anything. Sure it gets over-whelming at times, but I want to raise my children!! (Blessed that I am able to stay home...not all can and it's not their fault/choice.) If I had it my way, I would wake up feeling GREAT! But, I seem to always wake up with a migraine..something going on right now. So mornings are slow. Then we start school asap. My girls are very self-motivated and usually start on their own Mon-Thurs. Six and eight and they do school without being told...?? So wonderful!! I do daily house work all day, help w/school, and anything extra, which is always something!!! LOL I have not read all the replies but a couple caught my eye...I too write reminders for everything! If not, I forget! I also use my cell phone calendar for special dates with an alarm that goes off. Most important, preparing for dinner. One day I will have it perfected, but at least I am way better than I used to be!! heehee And TIFF...I MOW too!! I like it, except when it's 100 degrees! Husband will do what I need, but I feel since I'm blessed to be home, I can take care of most. He does the fixing of course! And how great he is when I'm sick! WOW...house is perfect, kids as well and he takes such good care of me. Maybe that's why I'm so sick lately, battling this never ending migraine. lol Only God knows....I sure need my healing though! Say a prayer for me, pretty please...

Prayer said:-)
Shel - I love the ticket system. Too bad my DH doesn't enforce responsibilities on my SD when she's here. It's a work in progress. We always have to ask over and over to have her do anything. We even offered her $1 for each chore (8) to be completed every other week. Money doesn't motivate her in the slightest. It sure motivated me at 11 years old!
It's awesome that you ladies get to stay home with your kids. When/if I am so blessed, I will be a SAHM as well. I also want to raise my child. No daycare here.....ever.

Shel, your ticket system sounds like something we should try out! So what kinds of things do they earn tickets for, just small chores like one for taking out trash etc...?

I never thought I'd be a stay at home mom, but am so thankful I made the switch from corporate America. I thought we'd miss my income, but we have been very blessed. I love all the time I get with my children. We are very close.
J hardin - I think it's great that you have a degree. I'd like to begin work on a masters degree if DH ever stops traveling. I want to set a good example for my kids. We tell them they need to plan on going to gaduate school. We have one planning on med school, one wanting to attend law school, and the youngest wants to be a dad, lol! (So typical for a homeschooling family, right?)

I love that DH is home this week, but the whole schedule thing is NOT working with him here. We're hoping to get back on track while he is away for the day.
