Ladies - I was just curious about VV and VE. Does the time between the V and the VR have anything to do with the need for one or the other? Have any of you used a dr that only does VV, and during the procedure found out your DH needed a VE? IF so, what happened next? Did you have to go to different dr and have the procedure re-done? Did you have to pay for a VR twice?! Thanks for any info!!!!!!

I don't believe that the time between the V and VR make much of a difference. You'll find there is a huge spectrum of time differences with those who need a VE.
As for what a VV only doctor would do if a VE was needed, to the best of my understanding, a VV only doctor doesn't even look to see if a VE is required. They just simply do the VV and hope for the best. This is why it's sooo important, in my opinion, to go with a doctor who does VEs to begin with.

Yes, you would most certainly have to pay for 2 VRs because you are aware of the possibility of the VV not working. The Dr. will still want to be paid for his work. It is a gamble, so I would recommend choosing a doctor who can do both and will be able to make the decision which would be best for you at the time of the procedure.
We personally are not going to bother worrying about the VE as we are going with Dr. Wilson. We have decided that if it is God's will for us to have another biological child then the VV will work and if not then the VE probably won't work either, you know what I mean? I so want to have another baby, but I am putting it in God's hands and we are doing what we can to right the wrong. If nothing works for us then we will adopt, so putting the extra money out for a procedure that might not even work when we can save it for an adoption doesn't work for us.
You need to do what works for you!

I 100% agree with Leslie. Definately go to a Dr. that does both a VV and VE. If your Dr. gets in there and he needs both VE's and the Dr. doesn't do VE, do you really want your hubby to go thru being cut open again??
Plus paying twice? Who wants to do that?
It doesn't make a difference about the time in between the V and VR. It all depends on the guy and his body. It's about how your DH healed from the V and where the sperm is. We did VV on both sides and had clips and my DH was 10.5 years out, but if he needed a VE, our Dr. could do it and we felt so much more comfortable with that.

We also made the choice to spend $500 more to go with a Dr who could do a VE. DH had had some major swelling and hematoma issues after the V, which potentially could have made it so he needed a VE, but we were blessed in that he only needed the VR. We also were 9 yrs 3 months out from the V

I also agree, go with a doctor that can do both the VV or VE if necessary, they won't know til they are in their if he needs a VE or not so it is always best to go with a doctor that can do one if needed!
