Meds that affect sperm

I have had a hard time with researching this, and even our dr gave us faulty info. Dh is on a anti-depressant (venlafaxine), the one with the least sexual side effects, BUT it still affects sperm!! I have to talk to DH about if he will continue taking this or not (he just started it a week ago). I hate to have him miserable, but I want those nice healthy sperm!

I think I mentioned this to you before, my DH was on a blood pressure med that was devastating to his fertility, we had no idea until AFTER he got his VR, a new doctor told him and he was able to get off it right away with diet and exercise, thank god! He was taking this BP med at the time of surgery and we are hoping that is why the doctor say O sperm at the time of surgery, cause it just makes no sense why they would see no sperm, this man was crazy fertile before V! He stopped taking that BP med about 2 weeks after the surgery when he went to a new doctor who told us this med should only be prescribed to 80 yr old men who have no sexual desired left and def not to men of childbearing age!! I was furious!!! We are hoping this is why his 3m SA was zero as well!

As for the anti-depressant, my DH is on Lexapro. Doctors swear up and down this is not going to affect fertility/sperm counts but I am leary of doctors. I got online and researched and came across several independent tests that were done between groups of men and every group study showed a significant drop in sperm counts while on an SSRI. 3m after they discontinued the anti-depressant their sperm counts went back up! I need to find those links again!

My DH was also on Lexapro at the time of surgery and 3m SA, doctors say it will not affect sperm count but I am very leary!!! he has been off it for about 4m now so I am just hoping maybe those two meds (BP and abilify) were the cause of none seen at surgery and SA! As for the Lexapro, DH can't get off that, not now at least so if that is causing problems then we are screwed
