I have got a chart going on fertility friend, I have only been temping for the last 2 weeks or so. Anyway, during your period does your temp stay lower after it drops just before you get it ? I just want to know what to expect. I have never done this before and relied on OPK only. However, I intend to use this method after the VR to get pg and eventually to avoid it if necessary so I want to learn it. I have done the FF course, but frankly I am too lazy to go back and reread and find the info I may have missed relating to my question. I do find it sort of amazing how it helps you to become more aware of what is going on with your body. Would any of you recommend buying the cheaper OPK test strips now to help get to know my cycle better before we ever start trying or wait. I can't decide if I am being a total psycho or not . I really want to try ASAP after the VR. DH will have his full 2 weeks and then a few more days before I enter O territory in June ;D. Suggestions??

Carrie, I tempted for 10 months, I haven't for the past two months BUT for ME I got a small dip the day AF arrived, it then stayed at that temp for about 2 days and then mine took another lower dip about mid AF, where it then stayed at til I O'ed.... I think this is probably different for each person though!

Thanks, and then it (ideally) spikes up at O right? What do you think about the OPKs?

Yes, mine always spiked up the day after O! I have actually never been a fan of OPK's. I am very in tune with my body and can tell when I O, by the changes in my cervical mucus and I also always get sharp pains the day i O and also always a headache the day i O, so those signs along with my CM I can tell, so I have only done OPK's for 2 months and then stopped.

Carrie, I temped and then went to just using OPKs. I didn't like the cheap ones or any that require you to judge whether or not the line is darker than the control line. It never was for me so I just use the smiley face ones. They are digital and take all the guess work out of it. You can buy them cheaper on amazon than in the store.
On temping, my temp would always drop the day before AF, then spike when I O (that's the shift they refer to). The thing with temping is you have to take your temp at the same time every morning otherwise it skews your chart. I would try it now just so that you get more familiar with the way your body works. Just remember though, nearly everyone has a very funny first cycle during/after the VR. I don't know if it from all the stress/excitement or what, but you can count on that first cycle being a little wacky.

Thanks! I have read you gals discuss the wacky post VR cycle, the funny thing is when we fully decided to go ahead with the VR this fall I had a freaky long cycle of 36 days--never have done that in my life! Then the month before scheduling was shorter by a day and a half (which doesn't sound like much but when it never happens that way it is really surprising). Everything else has been clockwork as usual. So stress/excitement/whatever will likely be a factor.
The last two months I think I have even felt the O pain, but I am not sure. Is it just a sudden twinge and then it is over or does it last longer? Do you feel on both or just either side?

carrie- when I use OPK's, I use the internet cheapies. I would test 3-4 times a day (which is VERY expensive with the digital). i discovered that my lh surge was very short (less than 24 hrs) so I often times would miss it with digital.
With temping, I love knowing why af is late- was it late O or is my luteal longer, etc. I would typically drop the day before or day of AF and then stay low until O. But I also would have false rises, where it would jump and then drop down, so do not count it O until you have the 3 high temps to confirm.
This past month I really felt O. I was out shopping and it felt like someone had pinched me really hard on the left side. The initial pain was only a few minutes, but residual was about an hr. But O pain is different for each woman, and each cycle.
Gotta love our bodies and how none of it is easy to figure out.
