So....my DH's VR is in two weeks ;D (yay!!!) I am wondering...when should I start to take prenatals? I already bought some and dont know when to start taking them. I have never had a baby before and am getting different advice from all.
Side note: we wont start trying until the summer though because I am a teacher and we are trying to plan the birth so I can stay home for a few months with the new baby. So...should I start taking the vitamins now or wait until we actually start TTC???

Go ahead and start taking them now, that way you'll help to ensure that you have a buildup of the vitamins and minerals that you need just in case you do get pg sooner than expected. Prenatals are really good for all women of childbearing age to take, regardless of whether they're TTC or not, because they have such a wide range of ingredients that are beneficial to our whole bodies.

Hey Amy,
Since you don't eat meat, go easy on the soy as a protein source. I'd focus on grains and legumes since too much soy is thought to interfere with ttc.

With the protein, as Shel said, watch where you're getting it from. I only eat meat about 1-2 times a month, and I only eat fish (fresh, wild, locally caught salmon or cod) and very occasionally chicken. I never eat soy, because of the risk factors with the natural estrogen found in them...well, and the fact that it's almost impossible to find soy that isn't GMO. lol Anyways, back to the point, even without meat and soy, you can get plenty of protein from grains, legumes, beans (and dairy, if you're into that), and even most dark leafy greens.
I really do think, though, that a prenatal is sufficient unless there are other areas of concern.

I would start the prenatals ASAP! It won't hurt anything and can only help. I would definitely throw some fish oils into your daily vitamin rituals too so important to mommy and baby once you conceive and after birth! I just wish i would of known all of this about the fish oil when I was pregnant with my babies pre-V Good Luck with your VR, 2 weeks how exciting!
