We drove from AZ to TX (17 hours). We are SO glad that we picked Dr. R to do our surgery. He and his staff are amazing. Dr. Roeder says that everything went perfectly. I got dressed up in my surgical gear and got to sit with DH during the procedure. Dr. R explained everything he was doing and kept asking DH if he was ok. He was very comforting during the entire surgery and DH, Dr. R and Dean even told a few jokes during the left side, which was first. The left side took about 1 hour and the right side took about 1.5 hours. There was just more scar tissue on the right side that had to be taken off. DH also had a harder time with the right side and it was a difficult 10-15 mins of pain. I felt so bad for him. Once Dr. R gave him more pain meds, the last of it went fine. We stayed at the Microtel Inn for $48/night - Dr. Roeder's special discount. We have WHOLE SPERM ON BOTH SIDES AND LOTS OF THEM! Soooo, let's hope they know where to go when they come out, ha ha. DH's recovery went well and stitches came out 1 week to the day of surgery. He is still tender and having "some" pain, but this is normal. We are now 48 days post-op. Most of the VR docs are wonderful, so if you chose any of them, I'm sure you will have a positive experience. Attachments:

We also used Dr. Roeder. DH flew alone from NJ to TX the night before surgery. He said Dr. R was great and the office staff were all very sweet. DH also said the VR itself was easier than the V. He felt no pain at all. He did say it felt weird because he could feel tugging in places he did not expect. It wasn't painful, but just a peculiar sensation. DH went back to the Comfort Suites to rest, had a check up the next morning and then flew back home.
A tip for flying home. My DH took a plastic ziploc and filled it with ice at the airport so he could ice the boys during the flight. I had a bag of frozen peas ready for him so he could continue icing while he was home. He had mild swelling and apparently very bad bruising (I couldn't bear to look for myself). He was up and walking around by about day 5. I really enjoyed caring for him while he was recovering. It was such a pleasure to serve him after all he had done. Oh how I love this man of mine!

We also used Dr. R and we loved him! We drove 18 hours from Illinois, spent a few days in San Antonio and stayed on the Riverwalk which was only about 30 mins from Dr. R. So at least we were able to have some fun before the surgery. We left to drive back the day after the VR and I ended up driving the ENTIRE way back because DH was super uncomfortable driving. So he drove for like 4 minutes. lol. But we made it and now we have a small amount of sperm and are taking vitamins to see if that helps. Dr. R prednisone and clomid if we were interested, but I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

We did the Riverwalk too! We made a 4-day vacation out of it and had a blast! We sought out little eating spots and also met a few friends there on Sunday night before our Monday am surgery. San Antonio is beautiful.
My DH drove the entire was back. We got out alot so we could walk around to get that fluid moving but he did very well. I begged to drive, but he declined.
He enjoyed me waiting on him and lifting everything for a month. We did get into an arguement once because I caught him lifting his laptop. LOL!

We flew from NC to TX for the procedure, and we were very pleased with Dr. R and his staff. Months before we decided to go with Dr. R, we had numerous telephone conversations with his staff, and they were always very kind and helpful. Dr. R's demeanor is so comforting, and even without a BFP as of yet, we couldn't be happier with our experience.

If we have to have a redo we are going to go to him as well. I haven't heard one negative thing about him.
