I bet you could make it a LOT healthier by substituting the butter for applesauce, and cutting out the sugar and adding in some honey to sweeten it.

Hey Leslie, Do you like shakes? If so, I tried Vega Sequel Vanilla Chai today and it was amazing! I am going to whole foods tomorrow so I thought I'd buy some of the bars they make too.
I posted on the chit chat thread, too, but thought I'd let u know I've decided to go ahead and continue training for a 1/2 marathon. I won't actually run one since there aren't any nearby in the time frame I need. I'll probably hit a 5k or 2 for fun along the way. Anyway, I ran 6 miles with DH today and we will increase the weekly long run by 1 mile each week. So, we will hit 13 miles at the end of 12 weeks of training. We are finishing week 4 with a 3mile EZ tomorrow:)

Shel, you're doing such an amazing job on your running! You're very inspiring! My DH loves to run, but I'm just not a runner. He's asked me to go with him before, but I KNOW there's no way I'd be able to keep up. I feel bad, so I'm trying to get my rear in shape using the elliptical so that one day soon I can surprise him and join him for his runs. It's nothing compared to you, but I was so excited to actually hit 2 miles yesterday. lol Now if I can get to 2 miles in under...well, I actually am WAY too embarrassed to tell you how long it took me to jog those 2 miles, but I am working on it, and I know I'll get quicker.

Leslie - two miles is GREAT!!! Don't worry about speed. Just focus on adding to distance for now. I am actually pretty slow compared to most of my friends that run and I am certain that is due to the extra baggage I've been carrying the last couple years. I am hoping this vegan diet helps me get rid of it.
Keep up the great work!!

Leslie - I just hit 3.1 miles (distance of a 5k) this week on the treadmill. Reaching that distance was my 1st goal. My second goal is to shave time off of it. I am pretty slow too. At the beginning of the week it was taking me an hour to reach that distance. As of today I did it in 53 minutes. I know that as long as I keep working at it I will continue to knock time off. My third goal is to run in the next 5k here in April.

Cindy, that's great! Maybe I should change up my goals? Right now I'm just working on jogging for a certain amount of time, but I'd really rather set a distance goal. Right now, I'm noticing that since I'm just trying to stay on the elliptical for X number of minutes, I don't push myself and end up going pretty slow for a majority of that time. If I were to not allow myself to get off until I had gone a certain distance, it would, logically, encourage me to work faster. Right? What do you ladies think? Time or distance?

Totally agree! I usually set my goal for the calories burned, it motivates me. You are so right if you vow to stay on for 45 minutes and do not push yourself at all you are not really getting the maximum benefit of the time put in.

I say go for distance because it is a huge motivator. I always aim for distance because I find that there are times that I get a very sluggish start. Then I want to "wrap it up" so I end up speeding things up after about 5-10minutes. So, I always get at least 3 miles in. I don't get a lot of "me" time with homeschooling and DH being away so much (all 3 of my kids are in sports) so I have some pretty quick runs some days. I wish I could speed up my long runs, but I am just not there yet. I find that I get sore when I run faster so it must be working. Cindy, I just signed up for a 5k, too! I'm so excited! I got up SO early this am so I ran a VERY leisurely 3 miles (for me) on the treadmill. It felt nice because my legs are still a little stiff from my long run. I am now drinking a Vega Sequel Vegan shake made with OJ and Mango. It is green, but tastes like spicy mango. DH says it looks nasty, but I like it

I slacked off on going to the gym today. Just didn't want to go there alone. I was just vegging on the couch and started feeling so guilty about that so I found the exercise on demand channel and did a workout in the comfort of my own living room tonight. I have to admit I do feel better now that I exercised. I had no idea that I had so many workouts available for free on my tv.

Isn't that awesome, Cindy? I actually recorded the Jillian workouts from on Demand. I love her but she really hurts me sometimes:)

I just ran 8 miles in the pouring rain with DS14. I am so proud of that kid. I think I have convinced him to run this half marathon with me. I told him that after today's long run in the rain, the 9 miles we need to run next weekend is going to feel like a walk in the park

Shel, that's great that your DS is into running as well. How amazing would that be to be able to run the half marathon with him?!?!
